Amsterdam-basedNL Architects created a concept bicycling club that allows users to cycle on its rooftop.
The ‘Bicycle Club’—created for real estate developer VANKE, as part of a large resort area in Sanya, Hainan, southern China—will be a dedicated space for cycling enthusiasts.
The building features a glass-enclosed café and restrooms on the ground floor—shaded by an open oval space cycling track as its roof.
According to the architects, the elegant upward curvature of the eaves evokes the form of the traditional and functional pagoda.
At the bicycle club, visitors can rent bicycles from the building’s entrance, sit at the café, and walk up to the open space to cycle while enjoying the city’s tropical climate.
The design is still in its approval stages; construction is expected to start soon.
